This class really opened my eyes to social justice issues.  Before, I was aware of them, but becasue I am a fairly "priviliged" individual, I didn't think about them often.  This class also opened up a different topic--science fiction--which I also knew relatively little about.  We talked about exploring social justice issues through science fiction, which I'd never heard of before, and it turns out the two are much more closely related than I'd imagined.  It turns out that there are many science fiction stories that reflect social justice issues--one writer even argued that social justice IS science fiction.  This class encouraged me to think more widely and consider the situations of others like I'd never done before.
