Fairytale
In honor of Tell a Fairytale Day and because our floor is fairytale themed, our RA asked for submissions of our very own fairytales about ourselves and our experiences at UW. Here is mine.
Once upon a time there was a princess who dreamed of intellectual pursuit and finding enlightenment in a faraway and exotic land. But fate had a different plan for her and (mostly because this princess still had a lot to learn about the world) instead she was to pursue her education in a kingdom literally across the bridge from hers—less than a day’s journey. It turned out that this kingdom was much stranger than she had thought. The princess wandered about the kingdom, lost and confused. Many a prince or princess she would ask where she was headed, and she would ask them. Most replied “bioengineering” or “computer science” or “economics” but the princess never knew where she was going and simply told them she was “exploring”. They all seemed to have maps and destinations but she did not know where she wanted to go at all. Deep down inside the princess was very lost and confused and worried she would be a wanderer forever. Thankfully, the princess lived in a beautiful castle called Terry, which was on the very edge of the kingdom, and she lived in the magical wing of Terry called Terry 5 where the friendliest, most wonderful, gallant, intelligent and chivalrous princes and princesses lived. With them she went on many adventures, going on quests and conquering and journeying to places such as the Local Point dining hall in Lander castle, the theater, Rick’s café across the kingdom, a couple royal balls and much more. The princes and princesses of Terry 5 even accumulated over 20 to see the infamous Sir Deadpool. She also spent many hours in the chamber of Prince Jeremy and Prince Kevin trying to decode an ancient riddle inscribed on their wall. Through her adventures with the princes and princesses of Terry 5 and through battling the Monsters of Midterms and slaying the Fire-breathing Dragons of Finals and internalizing the wisdom of old wizards she learned about herself and became less afraid of being a wanderer. This quarter her interest was piqued by the wizards of mechanical minds. She hopes she can join their ranks, but she is worried that she does not have the brains and bravery to be one of them. Whatever happens and whatever path she winds up taking, she trusts fate and her spirit will lead to a happily ever after. (Next year she will continue her intellectual journey but return to her castle in the kingdom of Bellevue. She will miss the princes and princesses of Terry 5 very much.)
Honors Peer Mentoring
Since I am having such a wonderful dorm experience and had a great time in CSE 143 Honors I have grown to have a really positive perspective of the Honors program and I want to encourage anybody with the slightest bit of interest in the program to become a part of the Honors community, I signed up to be a peer mentor to incoming students. Here is a look at the webpage and what I put on it.
